A major question is being raised over the Sindh Government’s handling of an approved cemetery project in Karachi.
According to documents and the account shared by Sajid Mahmood, residents of Punjab Colony, Karachi have been demanding a permanent cemetery for decades. In 2018, Jamia Masjid Rizwan Trust approached the Sindh Government for land.
On 5 August 2021, the Sindh Cabinet reportedly approved 10 acres of land in Mawaach Goth, District Keamari, Karachi, for a cemetery. The required payment was made, legal requirements were completed, and a revenue record entry was reportedly made on 26 February 2022.
Yet, despite the cabinet approval, payment and revenue record, the residents have allegedly still not received practical possession of the land.
The matter was reportedly taken up with various officials and political representatives, while applications were also submitted to the Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell and Governor House. In May and June 2026, a survey and demarcation process was also initiated, but according to the account, the survey could not be completed.
The central question is simple:
If land has been approved and paid for a public cemetery, why has possession still not been handed over after years?
